Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: Episode INTERmission Review

It’s been a long time since I’ve had the time to update this blog (I had to update the design to look more like a blog again), and the last time I had the chance to play Final Fantasy VII was almost eight years ago. Of course, I was a kid when I played it and was pretty much unaware of the history behind it (I had no idea about Sephiroth and the story surrounding him until the end of the game). I’ve played the original seven Final Fantasy games before this one, and I really enjoyed IV and VI. I actually started this game when it was coming out on PS1, and I’ve already completed it once. Now, it’s been

The world’s first full-on, complete, and uncensored remake of Final Fantasy VII, that runs in full HD, has made its way to modern consoles and PC. The project is being made by the talented team at Square Enix, and is slated to hit stores this summer for the PlayStation 4 (and its little brother, the PlayStation Vita). For those who have been living under a rock, Final Fantasy VII was released in 1997 for the PlayStation, and is regarded as one of the greatest and most beloved games of all time.

Just over a year after the release of the original game, it’s time for Yuffie to shine in Final Fantasy VII Remake’s DLC. Is Episode INTERmission still worth a 100+GB JRPG install, or is it better left as is?

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: Episode INTRODUCTION Review

The INTERmission episode begins with Yuffie arriving in the slums of Midgar to meet members of Avalanche. When she arrives, she makes a big scene and introduces herself, but her companion hasn’t arrived yet. From there you have to start a journey through the slums to find them. Yuffie’s main goal is to steal Shinra’s equipment, but she needs help to do so. They arrive just after Cloud crashed into the Shinra reactor, which makes things a bit hectic. Eventually you find your callers, but it’s not Tifa or Barrett – it’s another Avalanche group. Here you will be introduced to an employee, Sonan, who will become your partner and ally. Sonon is similar to Red in that you can’t directly control him in combat. You can give it orders, but you can’t use it yourself. Both he and Yuffie are Wutai, and both have a grudge against Shinra. After that, you’ll have time to explore the slums, get new materials, complete side missions and play mini-games before heading to the Shinra headquarters. If you do all this, you’ll get about five hours of content in total. word-image-11226 Yuffie is an interesting character to play with. She can fight from a distance as well as in the air, and excels at both. Like a ninja, she moves fast, charges and performs many jump attacks. Their main weapon is a shuriken that can be thrown or used in combat. If you run it, you can use distant elemental attacks, allowing Yuffie to dodge a real threat. I ran into a few fighters when I kept jumping with her. I did some damage, but it looked really weird. Overall, I’m happy with Yuffie’s performance and I hope they don’t change anything in the next game. A new feature of this little DLC are synergistic attacks. You can team up with Sonon and combine attack stats to use combo attacks that deal massive damage and stun a lot. I don’t know why, but you have to press a button to activate it in combat; you have to start in synergy mode and press a button to deactivate it. There are very small timeouts in some fights that reset your synergy, which seems unnecessary because you just reset it again. Honestly, it looks like they’re going to cut back in the next game, which is a shame because it’s very useful. Or maybe people can only work with Yuffie; it’s too early to tell. There is also a new mini-game called Fort Condor. The game itself feels like practice for the big battle in the fortress in the next game, but it’s actually fun and entertaining. The concept is simple: Two players compete, and the one who captures the opponent’s base becomes the winner. You can choose six different types of units to spawn, and you decide where they go. If you manage to break through your opponent, you win and get new cards. Fort Condor is a welcome addition that should definitely be developed further in the next installment of the remake. word-image-11227 This is where my biggest problem with this DLC lies. I have no idea what will be saved, if these events will be mentioned in the next game, or if the new villains will matter at all. You can go up and down walls with Yuffie. Will I be able to do it in the next game? I liked this DLC, but it raises more questions than anything else, and I can well imagine Square Enix deleting some of the best features. The INTERmission episode is a few exciting hours that most Final Fantasy fans will enjoy. However, the short lifespan and uncertain future make this DLC difficult to sell at the current price. Is the INTERmission episode worth installing once for a 100+GB JRPG? word-image-11229 From the creative mind behind the iconic film Magic: The Gathering, by Richard Garfield, is published by Abrakam Entertainment in the increasingly popular roguelike genre: The book of thieves.
